Finding music can sometimes be like a party, you don’t meet the coolest person there until the end of the night and your rides honking outside.  Caspian is that band for me right now.  There’s no proverbial departure keeping us from being bro’s from here on, but you get the picture, we’ve both missed some quality time together.

Hailing from Beverly, Massachusetts, Caspian is a post-rock band in the vein of Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, and 65daysofstatic (somewhat).  Basically they write epic music with guitars and drums that makes your heart well up.  Though we have them as a New Artist, the band has been together since around 2003 recording two full lengths and several EP’s and splits which can be streamed HERE.  For now check out the track that wowed me, “Halls of Summer”, from their upcoming double LP Waking Season due out September 25th on Triple Crown Records.

I will be attending my first Coachella ever this year.  In other firsts, the festival is being held over back to back weekends (April 13-15 and 20-22) with identical lineups.  The three night headliners are The Black Keys, Radiohead, and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg and as much fun as those sound I’m more excited about all the small font bands (see full poster after the jump).  To start it off two legendary post-hardcore bands, At The Drive-In and Refused, reunite just in time.  Then there’s obviously M83, Explosions in the Sky, Frank Ocean, Bon Iver, araabMUZIK, Childish Gambino…the list goes on.  Coachella has a knack for putting together a cohesive weekend of music spanning genres from rock to hip-hop to electronic to folk.  Listen to the Coachella Playlist below to get hyped if you’re attending and jealous if you’re not.

Fav Tracks

We have the second taste of Bon Iver’s upcoming self-titled release.  Swelling from an elegant guitar riff into a full on symphony with the help of a children’s choir and marching drums, “Perth” finds the group again expanding their sound this time to reach the heavens.  The Explosions In The Sky-esque vibe of this new track is definitely making this my most awaited release of the year–June 21st if you forgot.

New Artist

These days there is no shortage of two-man groups making significant music (e.g. MGMT, Black Keys, Death from Above 1979, etc.) The LA duo El Ten Eleven is no exception.   Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty create intricately layered atmospheric post-rock through the use of a double neck guitar/bass, drums, and a plethora of pedals.   Formed in 2003, El Ten Eleven has released four studio albums including last year’s It’s Still Like a Secret.   With a sound likened to Explosions In The Sky or Godspeed You! Black Emperor, El Ten Eleven have an exploring sound with half (or less than half) the members.  Listen below to two of our favorites off their latest album below.

Two days ago, Explosions In The Sky posted the awesome hoops video above on their website (sweet fade-away) and announced that their new album will be released April 26th.  The album entitled Take Care, Take Care, Take Care will be the first studio release from the Texan quartet since 2007′s All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone.  According to EITS’s website, the album has six songs and “feels different than anything else [they've] done before”.  Well we’re excited.

In addition, for all those lucky New Yorkers, Explosions will be playing one lone US show April 6th at none other than Radio City Music Hall with Low and Eluvium.  Sounds like an emotional evening. See Take Care tracklist below.
