Gold Panda recently released this excellent reworking of fellow electronic experimentalist Throwing Snow’s “Brook”. On the track Derwin Panda builds a serene landscape before breaking it, rebuilding it, and finally allowing the sound to dissolve completely. Head HERE to buy a copy of Throwing Snow’s Clamor EP.
Gold Panda marks his first official release since 2010′s Lucky Shiner with this 7″. Derwin himself explains the tracks as such:
Listening to ‘Mountain’ again on a trip to Japan over New Year, we flew directly over Mt.Fuji and it seemed to just fit what I was seeing out of the window. ‘Financial District’ was just the opposite of the vast expanse of the mountain I guess. Crowded, synthetic and shiny… repetitive – and of course both can erupt at anytime.

Electronic, Fav Tracks, Mixes, Remix
Sure it’s only Monday night, but if your week is anything like mine you need something to carry you through, so here’s a mix to get you to the end of you week. Start off with a new track from youngster producer Madeon called “Icarus”. Next up a remix of the most annoying Foster the People song (my opinion) by the most unannoying Futurecop! (fact)–the outcome is good. Thirdly an excellent mix by the enigmatic London producers Monarchy. Followed up by StB favorite Gold Panda’s take on Luke Abbott’s “Brazil”. And lastly HEALTH’s haunting remix of Crystal Castles’s “Suffocation”. Enjoy your week!
StB favorite Gold Panda will be the guest DJ on the upcoming !K7 DJ-Kicks compilation. The 16th installment of the series which features the new Gold Panda track below will be released on October 31st.
It may have been Gold Panda’s production that initially got my attention, but it was Boykins’s crooning that drew me in. Jesse Boykins II, soul singer and producer originally from Chicago, sings through an ambient haze of getting back home to his mermaid lover. The song, which Jesse describes as “the visions of a lover thru his travels, in search of his present self”, is a track from his Way Of A Wayfarer EP which drops June 30th.

Gold Panda comes through here with a fantastic remix of Lykke Li’s “Sadness is a Blessing”. Sending the song in nearly the complete opposite direction, Panda minimally backs Li’s beautifully broken vocals creating a cavernous and lonely atmosphere as if she’s consoling herself an empty room. The track breaks free to wander into a session of Gold Panda’s woozy sampling but allows Lykke Li’s vocals to always keep center stage. Give it a listen below.
Derwin Panda, a.k.a. Gold Panda, built a healthy reputation early last year as remix artist by tweaking tracks by the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, Health and The Field. Soon after the UK producer began releasing EP’s of original material establishing himself as an up-and-comer in the field of fragmented electronic music. His sound is dizzying and calming with the same stroke. Cut and spliced samples dance psychotically over ambient melodies and programmed beats.
