Here’s a pretty awesome collab between StB fav Theophilus London and Harlem upstart A$AP Rocky.  DJ Carnage provides the Motown horn infused beat while the two flow about some Australian swag.

I don’t know which we love more, Theophilus London or RAC.  So a collaboration is like getting our PBR and getting to drink it too…with cake.  RAC strips back the funky structure of the original opting for minimal piano, guitar, and synths to carry the track letting the vocals take the front stage.  The Portland-er is one of the only remix artists around that can consistently take a good song and make it better.  “Why Even Try” is from London’s upcoming debut full-length Timez Are Weird These Days and features Sara Quin (of Tegan and Sara).

In preparation for the release of his debut album Timez Are Weird These Days on July 19th, Theophilus London will be giving away assorted items (e.g. unreleased songs, videos, remixes, clothes).  The first article, the song “Field of Dreams”.  The Dave Sitek produced track was originally recorded for the LP but will included on the Prince TL mixtape due out this fall.  Listen and download below.

New Artists, Fav Tracks

Devonté Hynes is hardly a new artist as he has been in the music industry for several years either recording as Test Icicles or Lightspeed Champion or writing and producing for other artists.  His new project Blood Orange is propelling him further into the spotlight with its unabashed 80′s influence accented by Hynes’ sensual vocals.  With flares of Prince alongside Yellow Magic Orchestra, Hynes creates something that feels retro and fresh at the same time.  Listen below to “Sutphin Boulevard” from the upcoming full length and the single “Dinner” from earlier this year.  Also as an added bonus for love of both artists, check out the collaboration between Theophilus London and Mr. Hynes that we missed in March.

Everybody’s favorite breathy lyricist Theophilus London just released his second official single “Flying Overseas”.  The track features guest vocals from Solange Knowles with production and additional vocals provided by Devonté Hynes (aka Lightspeed Champion).  The silky smooth jam shows London’s laid back side juxtaposing his first single “Humdrum Town”.  The single is brought to you by Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound.
