Magic Man – “Every Day”

No Comments 05 September 2013

’s new single “Every Day” falls right in line with the wonderful trend of infectious electro indie rock.  It’s got everything without feeling forced: roaring tom fills, rhythmic muted guitar plucks, soaring woah oh oh oh‘s, colorful synths, you get the picture.  Listen if you like , , or –who they’re appropriately currently on tour with.  It’s still hot as hell here so I’m cranking this one and calling it another summer jam.  The track is the first single from the upcoming EP You Are Here due out September 10th.

WALLA – “No Time”

No Comments 08 May 2013

’s “No Time” is a track that grabs you immediately.  Every layer is built with the intent to be (good) catchy, whether it’s the opening synth chords, anthemic falsetto chorus, groove-disco drums, or awesome guitar/synth sound that kicks in during the bridges, there are no weak links.  LA-based fit right into the current upswell of indie pop rock immediately standing alongside peers like and Youngblood Hawke after only having released their debut EP Animal of Love last November.  The song “No Time” will appear on the next EP Nature on June 4th.  Enjoy the single below and grab the excellent Animal of Love for free HERE.

Story of the Running Wolf

Reference the picture above, a wolf shooting neon pink lasers from its eyes.  I don’t think much more is required to prepare you for the electopop dance fury you will hear below.  The LA duo (SOTRW) craft pristine retro-futuristic fun in the vein of  or Duran Duran.  You’ll also get a taste of peers and .  Need more reason to like them?  They’re live show has been described as a ”John Hughes party on Neptune”.  Yeah, I’m gonna catch me one of them.

Enjoy the latest track from the 5 piece group from Athens, GA.  The electro rockers upcoming debut LP Body Faucet is set to release May 1, and “Orifice Origami” joins the previous single “Sebastian” in what’s shaping up to be a great summertime record.  I’ll be catching them in Columbus, OH this weekend, along with , , and .  Yeah, it’s gonna suck.

LA indie rock group surprisingly went through 2011 relatively quietly.  With a sound likened to indie greats and and a youthful vitality that of young indie rock acts like , Y LUV is set to make a big splash in 2012.  And even though we believe they are destined for big things in the coming year, 2011 singles like “Keep It Rollin’” and “Earthquakes” definitely put them in the Missed in 2011 category.  Keep an eye out for these guys.  Head HERE to stream and download more.

Walk The Moon – “Anna Sun”

1 Comment 07 March 2011

’s “Anna Sun” has already been on heavy rotation on the Tape Deck but after watching the video recently it felt due for it’s own post. It’s not because the song or the video is that amazing (believe me both are great) but more that they are a great compliment to each other.  It’s almost difficult to figure which was written first.

The lyrics to “Anna Sun” describe both a broken-down, hapless situation and hazy childhood memories of freedom and playfulness.  The juxtaposition of the scenarios is easily relatable to the use of ‘acting like a child’ as means of disconnecting from one’s current reality and in some ways an infusion of hope (or just escapism).  The video is a dreamlike party equipped with crazy characters and synchronized dance culminating with a paint/dance party in a field where the players literally become kids again.  Prior to ever seeing this video I imagined these exact scenes.  The song lyrics and melody are packed to the brim with so much nostalgia and vitality that it’s difficult to imagine any other turn of events than a dream-party-with-choreography-followed-by-dance-party-with-paint-in-a-field.

Enjoy the video above and the song below.  Walk The Moon’s debut album I Want, I Want is out now.  More on them HERE.
