Hopefully you’ve been paying attention. If not, here’s the big news: The 80′s, somehow, have defied the “20 year Trend” of music and fashion and are back AGAIN in a new and interesting way. Standouts Robots with Rayguns are releasing a new album that you can pre-order here, and newcomer Betamaxx is still pumping out jams. Known by us humans as Nick Morey, this possibly part android (unconfirmed) recently put up a playlist called “Lost Formats” , so if you’re up for a neon maxxed out thrill ride, turn this on at work. Those spreadsheets and memo’s will feel like they’re coming from Marty McFly himself.

One of our favorite retro-electro wizards is readying his new full length release RWR due out September 25th on his very own Fresh Ketch Records.  You’ve already heard standout tracks like “Fever” now take a gander at “Reflex”.  An awesome track featuring a grimy opening and a chopped up vocal hook that will have you (attempting to) sing along in no time.  After you listen head HERE to pre-order for a whopping $5 and get “Reflex” immediately.

Oh he went there…and you’ll be happy he did.  Robots With Rayguns remixed the most addictive and most played song of the year.  You think you’re “so over that song” but just wait, you’ll be dancing to it in no time.  More and more props to Lucas Smith for this one, it took balls to attack this but he destroyed it as usual.

Following my epic weekend at Coachella is another great weekend in LA.  To kick start your own check out this little playlist.  Starting off with Penguin Prison’s remix of the new Miike Snow track that has made its way around the internet and back several times over.  Next is UK Draper’s huge edit of Strange Talk’s “Eskimo Boy”.  It’s been awhile since we’ve posted mashups but fellow Floridian Fat Superman’s newest club mix has been on constant repeat for me all morning.  Next up is Gigamesh’s take on Alexander Holland’s single from last year.  Lastly is a cover from another StB fav Robots With Rayguns of Selena Gomez’s radio hit featuring Dana Jean Phoenix on vocals.  Enjoy!

With the recent passing of Whitney Houston it seems everyone on the interwebs is honoring the late great in their own way.  So what better way for StB to show our respect than with recent tracks by two of our favorites.  Robots With Rayguns puts his typical awesome flair on the classic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” while The Hood Internet mixes “How Will I Know” with Chromeo’s “When The Night Falls”.

Some people just can’t miss.  Lucas Patrick Smith, RWR, is one.  His first sampling of what is to come for 2012 is my proof.  Yet another retro dance track begging you to move.  The kid’s makes nothing but gold…neon pink gold that is.  This has us really looking forward to this year.

It’s been a bit since we posted a weekend mix so their seems no better reason than my bashed up toe.  Nothing better to kick your weekend off than a stellar mashup by Captain Cuts featuring Avicii and StB fav’s The Knocks.  And there’s no reason not to throw a new Robots With Rayguns remix in, especially a Beyoncé one.  Follow that up with the masterly mixing of Big Sean and Wolfgang Gartner by The Hood Internet and a sunny remix by LA’s Goldroom of Gigamesh and we’re talking party.  Last but not one of my favorite remixers Fear Of Tigers a take on Anoraak’s “Nightdrive With You”.  Enjoy some good beer!

Oh he went there.  Remember that song that you heard ALL summer long?  Super something?  Yeah, well our new favorite remixer Robots With Rayguns decided to take 2011′s summer radio anthem and set it to a montage of John Hughes movies.  It suddenly doesn’t annoy me anymore.

On top of that RWR recently remixed the synthpop duo Topless.  Yet again the Phoenix producer proves that sometimes the best songs are comprised solely of MIDI bass lines and synth hooks.

A little Friday fun.  Lucas Smith’s Robots With Rayguns project has quickly become one of my favorite listens.  I only recently stumbled across his originals which immediately hooked me.  Soon I was equally captivated by his remixes.  My favorite is definitely RWR’s version of Chromeo’s “Hot Mess”.  Like a good remix, Smith makes the song his own giving it his signature new wave flare.  Suddenly the original sounds like the remix.  Kick off your weekend robot style with some of our favorite RWR remixes.
