We’re a little over halfway through a great year in music. Here’s a playlist of some of our fav tracks that we will be adding to as the year progresses (or if we just totally forgot something from the past 6 months). What are some of your favorites from the first half of the year and what are you looking forward to?
Albums, Mashup, Mashup Mondays, Mixes, Reviews
Remember Mashups? Yeah yeah, Girl Talk? That Jay-z and Linkin Park album from 2004? Good Times. But mashups are still around and they’re still awesome. The Hood Internet are some favorites of ours, of course. And these guys: The White Panda. We’ve blogged them before and their albums are always chock full of music smashed together from disparate genres to make something that just feels good. Put this album on (IT’S FREE WITH A LIKE OF THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE), crank up your sound system, and enjoy the party music. People will be asking, “Who is this?” all night. Tell them, “It’s The White Panda, and they’re freaking amazing.”
Oh yeah, I guess this is technically an album review: Go download it cause it’s great. 5 out of 5 red solo cups.

It’s been a crazy year over all…in the world, in music, and in the personal lives of myself and close friends. Crazy good and crazy bad. But alas the New Year represents a chance for us remake ourselves, shedding old skins in order to evolve on our ever changing life paths. So drink up buddy, it’s gonna be a hell of a night. We’ve decided to take advantage of all the wonderful music out there that we don’t get a chance to write about and send it over to our resident DJ yourboyisgolden, AKA DJ PearBear, to make Golden Mixes out of for your listening and dancing pleasure. Everyone knows it’s you, Carla. Don’t be like that.
TANK TOPS. BEERS. THE EIGHTIES. It’s all shooting around your mind like a ninja turtle on a Mattel hover-board and eating spaghetti-os out of your Chip and Dale thermos. And this is your inspired soundtrack. It’s not from the eighties, but it sure sounds like it.
Futurecop! remixes a catchy pop song to make it acceptable and even more dance-able, The Hood Internet smashes up a hip-hop anthem and some Casio inspired TNGHT craziness to make some “Gooooo”, and Aeroplane gets remixed to sound like something delicious Prince and Daft Punk collaborated on (IF ONLY).
Hopefully you’ve been paying attention. If not, here’s the big news: The 80′s, somehow, have defied the “20 year Trend” of music and fashion and are back AGAIN in a new and interesting way. Standouts Robots with Rayguns are releasing a new album that you can pre-order here, and newcomer Betamaxx is still pumping out jams. Known by us humans as Nick Morey, this possibly part android (unconfirmed) recently put up a playlist called “Lost Formats” , so if you’re up for a neon maxxed out thrill ride, turn this on at work. Those spreadsheets and memo’s will feel like they’re coming from Marty McFly himself.

For the third year running Cartoon Networks lovably creepy sibling network Adult Swim has put together a collection of songs from some of their favorite artists. The Singles Program features 13 tracks from 13 artists over 13 weeks all for free download and paired with some strange yet entertaining artwork. Check out our favorites with Wye Oak, The Field, Flying Lotus, Com Truise, Elite Gymnastics, and Liars below. Other artists involved were Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Hives, Absu, Gauntlet Hair, Wavves, and Yamantaka//Sonic Titan. Head HERE to listen and download all of them.
