Carousel – “Another Day”

No Comments 28 March 2013

We’ve been falling over ourselves for ’s warm brand of electropop for some time now.  So when they released a new song I listened to it whilst typing up a post…didn’t even listen to it first.  Few bands out there have impressed me with literally every single they put out.  Anyways, “Another Day”, another gem.  Not much more can be said about it.  The guys stick to their basics while refining the elements that make them so good.  Let it take you away.  Enjoy!

is the 17 year old British singer above who recently released her Rumour EP for free download (awesome).  Don’t let her sprite face fool you, both standout tracks from the EP below, “Rumour” and “No Strings”, show a grown up and somewhat tainted outlook on the world.  The more uplifting “Rumour” features several disheartening storylines all followed by “Perhaps it’s just a rumor” and the mature mantra “I’m just trying to work out how to be like myself”.  The second “No Strings” tells the simple story of young love until the chorus kicks in with “Fuck your no strings” showing again a seasoned attitude this time to the friends with benefits game.  Great lyrics aside both tracks feature catchy electronic pop and Howl’s amazing vocals that range from gorgeous to gritty (file next to Adele if you must).  Head HERE to grab the EP for free.

Too Much Retro Weekend Mix

Yes. The weekend smell is drifting up to you. In 48 short hours, you’ll be wearing your favorite tank top, tossing back beers and forgetting about that meeting where Carla made that bitchy face at you when you mentioned the coffee filter needing to be replaced every time someone uses it. Everyone knows it’s you, Carla. Don’t be like that.

TANK TOPS. BEERS. THE EIGHTIES. It’s all shooting around your mind like a ninja turtle on a Mattel hover-board and eating spaghetti-os out of your Chip and Dale thermos. And this is your inspired soundtrack. It’s not from the eighties, but it sure sounds like it.

remixes a catchy pop song to make it acceptable and even more dance-able, smashes up a hip-hop anthem and some Casio inspired craziness to make some “Gooooo”, and gets remixed to sound like something delicious Prince and collaborated on (IF ONLY).

Metro Station – “Shake It (Futurecop! Remix)”
The Hood Internet – “Goooo In Paris (Jay-Z & Kanye West vs. TNGHT)”
Aeroplane – “In Her Eyes (ft. Jamie Principle) (Beni Remix)”

BONUS ROUND: I don’t know what’s happening but I think I’m in love with this. Every inspirational eighties song rolled into one megamix the perfect length for a workout.

is an interesting choice of a band name for the Minneapolis duo of Lizzie Brown and Danny Burke. Originally meaning “a behavior or style that spreads from person to person in a culture” (the non-internet version), the band do not come across as simply a style passed down. Though they do make electopop in the vein of contemporaries with the swagger of they infuse a trip hop approach allowing their music to grow and take its own path. This leaning can be heard heavily in the below “Fallen”. In addition to making music Danny Burke also made the impressive music video for the more straightforward “Young” above. The two tracks are from their recently released album Young which can be streamed and purchased along with the rest of their catalog HERE.

Hopefully you’ve been paying attention. If not, here’s the big news: The 80′s, somehow, have defied the “20 year Trend” of music and fashion and are back AGAIN in a new and interesting way. Standouts are releasing a new album that you can pre-order here, and newcomer is still pumping out jams. Known by us humans as Nick Morey, this possibly part android (unconfirmed) recently put up a playlist called “Lost Formats” , so if you’re up for a neon maxxed out thrill ride, turn this on at work. Those spreadsheets and memo’s will feel like they’re coming from Marty McFly himself.
