Sigur Rós – “Brennisteinn”

No Comments 22 March 2013

Kveikur, ’s seventh studio album, has been promised to be “more aggressive” than previous records and the first official taste confirms that statement. “Brennisteinn” is chuggier than anything we’ve heard from the Icelandic post-rock trio but still contains Jónsi’s signature angelic vocals. Check out the creepy awesome video above. Kveikur is due out June 18.

Caspian

Finding music can sometimes be like a party, you don’t meet the coolest person there until the end of the night and your rides honking outside.   is that band for me right now.  There’s no proverbial departure keeping us from being bro’s from here on, but you get the picture, we’ve both missed some quality time together.

Hailing from Beverly, Massachusetts, Caspian is a post-rock band in the vein of , , and (somewhat).  Basically they write epic music with guitars and drums that makes your heart well up.  Though we have them as a , the band has been together since around 2003 recording two full lengths and several EP’s and splits which can be streamed HERE.  For now check out the track that wowed me, “Halls of Summer”, from their upcoming double LP Waking Season due out September 25th on Triple Crown Records.

65daysofstatic – “Come To Me (ft. Robert Smith)”

The oh-so-epic collaborates with the oh-so-awesome Robert Smith of The Cure.  The track “Come To Me” will be featured on the post-rock group’s upcoming release We Were Exploding Anyway.  The song is actually pretty straight forward and rock-driven than most of their recent stuff, but epic nonetheless.  Listen below.

Mogwai Set to Release New EP

No Comments 08 July 2011

apparently aren’t done with 2011.  After merely releasing one of the best albums of the year (so far) with , , the band is set to release an EP in September.  The Earth Division EP will apparently be a bit of a diversion from the group’s guitar slaying norms into a “more recontextualised domain of hazy electronic distortion, accompanied by spiky wafts of violins, violas, cellos and double bass and jagged keys.”  Well I just got goosebumps.  The 4-track EP will be available in North America September 13th via Sub Pop.  Re-listen to “Rano Pano” below and more for the tracklist.

Joy Division/New Order Compilation

No Comments 19 May 2011

On June 6th two of the most influential bands on modern music will release a compilation album which will include a previously unheard song “Hellbent”.  The collection entitled Total: From to New Order will chronicle the group’s transition from their start as Joy Division, through the death of legendary frontman Ian Curtis, to what they became.  It will contain 18 tracks, 5 from Joy Division and 13 from New Order, see tracklist below.

It is intriguing news to any die-hard fan to know the defunct trio can still play nice enough to release the compilation, but to throw a new track on top?  That’s a great end to the week.  Little is known about “Hellbent” other that it was recorded in 2005 and it’s a damn good New Order song.  Give it a spin below.

Adebisi Shank

No Comments 09 February 2011

The immediate answers to “what is ?” are easy.  Adebisi Shank is experimental post-rock band from Dublin, Ireland consisting of three guys named Vinny, Mick, and Lar.  They have two albums out–the latest of which was appropriately entitled released August 2010–and have recently signed to American label Sargent House.

Exactly what Adebisi Shank is from there is much more difficult to say.  Utilizing guitar, bass, and drums along with a barrage of audio manipulation they create an epic rock soundscape that is both punishing and beautiful.  At times you may feel like your mind is being sent through some strange pixelation process, but don’t worry it’s a good thing.  Listen to tracks “International Dreambeat” and “Genki Shank” below, which are both available for free download on their bandcamp site HERE.

El Ten Eleven

No Comments 29 January 2011

These days there is no shortage of two-man groups making significant music (e.g. MGMT, Black Keys, Death from Above 1979, etc.) The LA duo is no exception.   Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty create intricately layered atmospheric post-rock through the use of a double neck guitar/bass, drums, and a plethora of pedals.   Formed in 2003, has released four studio albums including last year’s It’s Still Like a Secret.   With a sound likened to or , El Ten Eleven have an exploring sound with half (or less than half) the members.  Listen below to two of our favorites off their latest album below.
