Today Goldroom dropped his debut EP Embrace just in time for you to soak in that last rays of summer light to it. The six-song EP contains the brand new single by the same name as well as five other gems we’ve been loving for a while now including “Sweetness Alive” and “Only You Can Show Me”. Sunshine dance factory Goldroom covered Elliott Smith’s “St. Ides Heaven” in honor of his upcoming Embrace EP due out September 9th. I personally love when someone covers a song in a different genre creating something totally different than the original. It shows a connection to the song you don’t get when the artist simply plays it. For more insight, in Legg’s words:
Elliott Smith is one of my songwriting idols, simple as that. Sometimes I really feel like the emotional songwriting part of music gets a bit lost within the dance music world, which was a big reason I picked this amazing song to cover. I just wanted to try and do my best to honor such a great musician and one of my favorite songs.

So if you haven’t heard by now The Knocks teamed up with fellow NYC artist and former tour buddy St. Lucia to give you one of the biggest party anthems of the year, “Modern Hearts”. Right from the start you can tell the tag-team brought their A+ game. Housey synths swell as Grobler woah’s the song into his unique and catchy hook. As soon as the first tom drum break hits you know there’s no turning back, your feet have already started burning a hole in your bedroom shoes and your sweating from the imaginary dance floor lights…you’ll see what I mean. The single was released this week and if that’s not enough Goldroom did a FREE REMIX.
Another original from LA producer Goldroom and another classic. This upbeat nu-disco number is perfect for you early spring mix as you break free from your Snuggie and squeeze into those shortie shorts. The track features Mereki on guest vocals.
Goldroom invites you to escape your cold rainy day to join him and the Saint Lou Lou sisters, who apparently now go by just SLL, on a tropical island. His new track “Sweetness Alive” is basically sweetness embodied in musical form as the trio effortlessly create a carefree nu-disco sound made for warmer weather. Enjoy!

We’ve decided to take advantage of all the wonderful music out there that we don’t get a chance to write about and send it over to our resident DJ yourboyisgolden, AKA DJ PearBear, to make Golden Mixes out of for your listening and dancing pleasure. LA based Opus Label just released the third installment of their compilations yesterday. The Opus Label compilation series features best of up and coming artists. This time around Opus opted for an eclectic mix of deep house and lounge including the below track “California Love” by Edit Murphy. November 15th Opus will be having a release party featuring Static Revenger, VanJess, Hi Fashion, Kauf, Chris Carter, and Hot Tub Johnnie. I’ve been backlogged on remixes for a while, so why not just unload them all at once? Starting off is Goldroom’s sunny version of Niki & The Dove. Following is former NIN keyboardist Alessandro Cortini’s new solo project SONOIO remixed by dance gurus Ladytron. An interesting remix by Second Date of Bon Iver’s 2009 track “Babys”. Then a excellently mellow mix of Daft Punk by Cherokee. Last but not least a motown infused take on Peter Bjorn & John’s “Dig A Littler Deeper” by Mayer Hawthorne. Enjoy!

It’s been a bit since we posted a weekend mix so their seems no better reason than my bashed up toe. Nothing better to kick your weekend off than a stellar mashup by Captain Cuts featuring Avicii and StB fav’s The Knocks. And there’s no reason not to throw a new Robots With Rayguns remix in, especially a Beyoncé one. Follow that up with the masterly mixing of Big Sean and Wolfgang Gartner by The Hood Internet and a sunny remix by LA’s Goldroom of Gigamesh and we’re talking party. Last but not one of my favorite remixers Fear Of Tigers a take on Anoraak’s “Nightdrive With You”. Enjoy some good beer!
