It’s been quite awhile since there has been a Chiddy Bang update around here, but that doesn’t mean the duo hasn’t stayed busy.  They’ve been performing at festivals around the country (see Bonnaroo) alongside players like Lil Wayne, Big Sean, and XV.  And after setting the world record for the longest freestyle, they’ve released the first single from their long awaited and upcoming debut album “Breakfast”.  With a catchy chorus and an energetic feel, the upbeat tune could catch some buzz in the pop world.  Check it out.

Chiddy Bang has tossed us all a piece from their upcoming EP The Preview, which will have to be our fix until their full length debut sometime in 2011.  Here’s an exerpt from an interview with SPIN:

"It was surreal and crazy to grasp," says Chiddy of working with Pharrell. "Even when he walked in the studio, we were in a little bit of shock. It's crazy to put ourselves in that context. No matter how much we accomplish, in our psyche, we're still like kids that were making shit in a dorm."

Adds Beresin: "He has an incredible energy, one of the most respected people who I grew up listening to. No one else really brings the raw swagger that he does."

We thought the track had its highs and lows, feeling more generic than we’re used to from the duo, but decide for yourself.  The Preview EP drops Oct 11(UK) and Oct 12(US).

New Artist

The young hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang sprinted onto the scene early this year with a fresh fusion of sounds, grabbing samples from interesting places: Radiohead, Passion Pit, Sufjan Stevens, and MGMT.  Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege and Xaphoon Jones are just 19 years old, but their youth isn’t wasted on them. Their unique sound, rhymes, and energy can go head to head with any alternative hip-hop group out there.  The Swelly Express Mixtape included the breakthrough hit “Opposite of Adults (Kids)” which tops the pile of MGMT-sampling songs out there. If you haven’t heard it, crank the volume and take a listen:

But things aren’t all wonderful in the swelly world.  If you’re like us, you’ve been wondering about their official debut album initially promised by the end of August.  Sadly, Chiddy Bang has just announced that they will not release The Swelly Life until early 2011.  But dry some of those tears.  They will be releasing The Preview next month which will include tracks old and new, with Pharell Williams, Q-Tip, and Darwin Deez jumping into the mix.  Drop date Oct 11 (UK) and Oct 12 (USA) on EMI Music.  But don’t take our word for it, read their email statement below.
