Vagrant Records are on a mission in 2012 scooping some fantastic acts including StB fav’s and now .  First listen to rocker standouts “Sex” and “The City” one might think the group another alt rock blow-by with a couple catchy tunes but after listening to their entire Facedown EP I found they’re style spans the gamut from synth based vocal ensembles to emotional ballads.  This is a band to look out for.  Their Sex EP will be released November 20th and I’m aroused.

California Wives - Art History

Following the Affair EP from 2010 and recently signed to , the Chicagoan four-piece have put all the faves that we’ve heard (and a bunch we haven’t) in their highly anticipated debut: Art History. Working with producer Claudius Mittendorfer (Interpol, Neon Indian, Wild Nothing), they’ve created an album that “comes from a relatable place of losing one’s youth”, according to frontman Jayson Kramer.

I can’t really express how much I’ve been looking forward to this release…. I’ve been waiting patiently for their full length record that I can just put on repeat.  Make sure to catch them on tour this fall…. maybe they will strike a chord with you as well.

Listen the the full album below, or pick it up on Amazon.

California Wives – “Marianne”

We last spoke of Chicago’s with their 2011 single “Tokyo”.  Now the group is back with a new track and an upcoming album on Records.  ”” mixes Springsteen style anthemic hooks with subdued Pains of Being Pure at Heart vocals.  It may have been a while since we’ve heard from the guys, but they’ve been hard at work on this sound.

California Wives – “Tokyo”

,

caught our attention last year with their Affair EP, especially the track “Blood Red Youth”.  An up and coming outfit out of Chicago the four-piece band has a knack of writing straightforward indie rock without coming across stale or trite.  On their newly released song “” we find California Wives favoring their New Order influences creating a beautifully somber sound with a flare of synthpop.  Listen to both “” and our favorite from last year “Blood Red Youth”  below and keep an eye for these guys this year.
