We all remember pretending to be our favorite 8-bit character when we were kids.  Megaman, Mario, Luigi (what kind of sad kid were you?) Samus (for gamer girls), the list goes on.  Some of you might remember doing this last week.  We all have music from our favorite games to accompany us on this imagination land adventure.  Someone took that to another level; someone decided pretend wasn’t enough and they hacked a NES console to pull those sounds out and make the most adventurous, pop-punky, chiptune  you’ve ever heard.   is that someone.  And we may have missed them in 2011 (or maybe 2010) but they’re taking off in a big way.  They wrote and performed the “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game” soundtrack and have remixes from and of and .  Check them out on the most recent single “Airbrushed,” the track, “Rainbow in the Dark (Das Racist Remix),” and a track from their first EP “Jetpack Blues, Sunset Hues.”  More on head HERE.

RAC – “1979″

Free tracks are nice and free tracks are nicer.  But a free cover of a ’ song?  Super nice.  In honor of 10,000 fans on that Facebook fad this cover of the legendary grunge rock band’s “1979″ was released.  It’s a pretty cool take on the song and features Liz Anjos on vocals.

Weekend Mix

For your weekend enjoyment here is an obscure playlist that strangely works.  Kicked off with two artists that we’ve been holding on to, and are certainly up-and-comers in the indie pop world.  They will very likely show up on StB again very soon.  Veteran party starter ’s new jam never hurts a playlist, and neither does remix of .  Ending with a remix that she absolutely destroys.  Enjoy!

Dark Mean – “Happy Banjo”

Theophilus London – “Why Even Try (RAC Remix)”

I don’t know which we love more, or .  So a collaboration is like getting our PBR and getting to drink it too…with cake.  strips back the funky structure of the original opting for minimal piano, guitar, and synths to carry the track letting the vocals take the front stage.  The Portland-er is one of the only remix artists around that can consistently take a good song and make it better.  “Why Even Try” is from London’s upcoming debut full-length Timez Are Weird These Days and features Sara Quin (of ).

Mr. Little Jeans

is:

a) an up and coming pop star.

b) the little Indian guy from Wes Anderson’s Rushmore.

c) all of the above

Norwegian born Monica Birkenes took the moniker Mr. Little Jeans because “he makes me smile every time.”  Taking her recording name from a Wes Anderson flick says a lot about Birkenes’s style and it comes through in her music.  Her voice is delicate yet powerful and it immediately endears her to the listener.  It is also very obvious she is a big Karen O fan, but who’s not.  Listen below to her entrancing cover of ’s “The Suburbs” and the remix of “Angel”.  The answer was c.

The internet can be a scary and wonderful place.  A few days ago it proved to be the latter as I stumbled across .  The West London four piece are dead-set on becoming the next talked about indie rock act.  With a sound along the lines of and the group features shimmering guitars, danceable beats, and catchy vocals.  Their most recent single “Headstrong” has all the makings of a huge hit with its extremely infectious chorus and energy.  ’s own Maury mixed the single and accompanied it with a great remix.  Listen to “Headstrong” and another StB favorite “Glamour” below.  Head HERE to buy the single and HERE to listen to more songs from The Collectable Few.

New Fav Track

Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” likely falls into the category of one of your favorite peices you’ve never knew you loved.  The instrumental piece dances gracefully through the moonlight you provide.  ’s rendition provides a bit of nostalgia featuring a Minimoog model D and Juno-60.  Listen to the wonderful outcome below.

New Fav Track

Whenever a new remix is about to seep from my speakers, I find myself preparing to hear a butchered version of a song I already love.  But I should know better by now.   () consistently provides unique perspective and interesting direction, not to mention high quality.  Check out their SITE, but more importantly, peruse their Portfolio on SoundCloud to see what they’re all about.
