As the release date nears for Savoir Adore’s album Our Nature we get another taste of the record with “Empire of Light”.  The elegantly subtle track adequately emotes without ever needing to go over the top to get the message across.  In a lot of ways it sounds like a really good Stars song with the guy girl back-and-forth vocals great use of restraint.  Remember they need our help to release this gem.  Only nine days left to be a part of it.

Following the Affair EP from 2010 and recently signed to Vagrant, the Chicagoan four-piece California Wives have put all the faves that we’ve heard (and a bunch we haven’t) in their highly anticipated debut: Art History. Working with producer Claudius Mittendorfer (Interpol, Neon Indian, Wild Nothing), they’ve created an album that “comes from a relatable place of losing one’s youth”, according to frontman Jayson Kramer.

I can’t really express how much I’ve been looking forward to this release…. I’ve been waiting patiently for their full length record that I can just put on repeat.  Make sure to catch them on tour this fall…. maybe they will strike a chord with you as well.

California Wives – Art History

Stars are preparing for their sixth studio release and first since 2010′s The Five Ghosts.  The album entitled The North is due out September 4th.  Below is the synth filled first track “The Theory of Relativity”.  Enjoy!

Missed in 2011

Savoir Adore may be my biggest miss of 2011.  The guy-girl duo have been likened to indie greats Stars and besides the obvious trade off vocals technique they employ the two bands also share another likeness in both being awesome.  The NYC indie rock outfit utilize vibrant sounds atop dance floor ready beats to create very infectious synthpop.  Their recent “Dreamers” has sunk its way deep within my brain’s jukebox.  ”Loveliest Creature” is actually from 2010, but give it a spin if you haven’t heard it.  More on Savoir Adore HERE.
