The Brooklyn guy/gal duo come full force with the first single “Regalia” featuring tropical drumming, soaring chorus, and even some Ratatat-esque guitar work. To release it they need your help! One of our favorite retro-electro wizards is readying his new full length release RWR due out September 25th on his very own Fresh Ketch Records. You’ve already heard standout tracks like “Fever” now take a gander at “Reflex”. An awesome track featuring a grimy opening and a chopped up vocal hook that will have you (attempting to) sing along in no time. The nearly un-Google-able Beacon first caught my eye when they opened up for Tycho at the Social in Orlando. My buddy and I were intrigued by the Brooklyn duo’s cool mixture of R&B sounds, moody synths, and heavy bass. They are readying they’re second EP entitled For Now due out October 2nd on Ghostly International. From the first single “Feeling’s Gone” it appears they have done nothing but improve on their sound since No Body EP. Thomas Mullarney vocals ride along the swelling beat as it drops out only to come back full force into a somewhat of a brooding dance song. Glad to hear more from these guys. You gotta love prolific artists. Only 5 months and 1 day after his debut full length All of Us, Together, Teen Daze will release his followup The Inner Mansions. Maybe the intention was to strike while the iron’s hot because from the sound of “New Life” there’s no sophomore slump here. The Inner Mansions is due out November 6th on Lefse Records.
Labor Day weekend FYF Fest will convert downtown LA into a haven for all music types alike. The young festival manages to coordinate one of the better festival lineups of the year. 2012 ubiquitous headliners M83, Refused, and Beirut are joined by the long silent The Faint and nearly a hundred other musical acts and comedians. FYF does a great job covering the genre gamut with James Blake, Sleigh Bells, Tanlines, Future Islands, Against Me!, Twin Shadow, Converge, and Aesop Rock. Tickets are still available at the SITE. Lucas Smith is putting the final touches on his next Robots With Rayguns album entitled simply RWR. Good news on the horizon and in your earholes for Crystal Castles fans, the duo have released a single and tour preparing for their upcoming new album. This weekend is the always enjoyable Pitchfork Music Festival in downtown Chicago and we are stoked to be attending yet again. Some awesome acts we’re looking forward to you ask? Let the stokedness begin. T-minus nothing and I’ll be basking in the desert sun drinking in the sounds by the likes of Bon Iver, Radiohead, Refused, At the Drive-In, Wild Beasts, etc. Unfortunately there are quite a few serious dilemmas like Miike Snow/SBTRKT/Godspeed You! Black Emperor or M83/Explosions in the Sky. No matter, decisions will be made and no regrets will be had. One of my all time favorites are creeping back into relevance with their first album since 2009. mewithoutyou will be releasing Ten Stories via their own label Pine Street Music Collection on May 15th. ”February, 1878″, not to be confused with “January, 1979“, is the opener and finds that the guys haven’t lost their touch. Definitely one of the only bands that can mix so many styles into one song without losing impact or coming off pretentious. Still one of my favorite bands since they blew my mind at a Norma Jean show almost a decade ago.
